Water Treatment

Ozone is a highly reactive and unstable gas and is the strongest commercially available oxidizing agent.

Due to its reactive nature Ozone has a wide application including drinking water treatment [ Iron, Manganese removal and disinfection ], Waste water treatment [ COD reduction, colour removal, Odour removal ], Process water [ Pure water generation, Ultra - pure water and Water for injection disinfection, Pseudomonas and other pathogen removal, TOC reduction ], Cooling tower water treatment, swimming pool water treatment etc. ozone generators with air or oxygen as feed gas to achieve oxidation.

Usually, water treatment applications use Air - based ozone generators with air or oxygen as feed gas to achieve oxidation.

Since Ozone has a much higher oxidizing potential compared to chlorine it is nearly 3000 times more powerful when it comes to applications involve oxidation. Ozone also has the unique advantage of leaving no residue behind and forming no unwanted by - products.

However since Ozone has a short half - life due to its unstable nature, it cannot be used as a residual disinfectant.

OTSIL has installed some of the largest Ozone generators for water treatment in India.

  • Removal of Iron/Manganese from water
  • Ozone is highly effective in removing Iron, Manganese, and other heavy metals from source water. The Precipitated metals can then be removed using filtration.
  • Removal of odorous compounds from raw water
  • MIB, Geosmin, and other taste/odour producing compounds in water can be treated with Ozone technology
  • Reducing DBP (Disinfection by-products) downstream
  • Ozone technology can be used to reduce disinfection by-product precursors and make downstream chlorine usage safer.
  • Disinfect water (post-ozonation)
  • Ozone is extremely effective versus gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria (Including pseudomonas), and inactivation of viruses (including Covid 19)
  • Removal of contaminants like disruptive endocrine compounds, Pesticides, herbicides, and other industrial chemicals like NMDA /MTBE, etc
  • Specific contaminants from source water can be targeted using Ozone technology pre-treatment.
  • Improve micro flocculation (Inter-ozone)
  • Improve performance of micron filters

FAQs

The first step in selecting an Ozone generator for water treatment is to identify the specific application for which you need Ozone.

Ozone can be used for various purposes, including Iron/Manganese removal, Disinfectant by-product precursor removal, micro pollutant removal, disinfection, or removing odors from source water.

The Ozone dosage required for your chosen application will determine the size of the Ozonator needed.

Once you’ve determined the required Ozone dosage, you need to consider the Ozone concentration. It’s generally advisable to choose the highest available Ozone concentration to ensure efficient mixing, especially in warmer climates where Ozone solubility decreases with higher temperatures.

The choice of mixing technology, such as a venturi injector or a diffuser arrangement, depends on factors like the volume of water to be treated and the size of contact tanks.

All the factors mentioned above, including application, dosage, Ozone concentration, and mixing technology, collectively determine the size of the Ozone generator needed and the necessary accessories for efficient Ozone generation and mixing.

To ensure the success of your water treatment project, it’s crucial to carefully consider all the factors mentioned above and seek expert advice from experienced companies like OTSIL when choosing and implementing your Ozone generator system.

Water treatment with ozone involves injecting ozone gas into water to disinfect and remove contaminants. Ozone breaks down organic compounds, kills bacteria, and removes taste and odor issues. It’s an effective method for purifying drinking water and wastewater treatment.

Ozone generators work in water treatment by producing ozone gas, which is injected into water to disinfect and remove contaminants. Ozone oxidizes and breaks down pollutants, making the water safe for consumption and eliminating harmful microorganisms.
