Recycling STP Water for Industries, Tamil Nadu, India
OVERVIEW
Owing to water scarcity in the region, sewerage and wastewater treatment is one of the State priorities in Tamil Nadu. In this context, the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu made an announcement under Rule 110 that the wastewater must be recycled and reused. Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) had proposed to setup wastewater treatment plant (Tertiary Treatment Reverse Osmosis) with a capacity of 45 MLD at Kodungaiyur
Case study
Chennai became the first Indian city to recycle sewage to supply for industries. Located at Kodungaiyur, the plant has a capacity to treat 45 million litres sewage daily and will send recycled water to industries using Ozone technology for disinfection. Currently, industries in the city are being supplied with 40 MLD of freshwater by Metro Water. Now this water will be used for drinking water needs instead. OTSIL is proud to have been associated with this project.
